Built in two phases, the initial stage included new construction of a 58,000-square-foot, multi-building complex. Phase two included renovation of a 30,000-square-foot structure that housed a men’s and women’s locker room and existing pool areas. The project introduces a 65-meter competition pool with double bulkheads, 25-meter instructional pool, and 450-person capacity bleachers. The three buildings are interconnected by an overhead shade structure.
“As OCC has grown and evolved over the years, so too has its need for new, state-of-the-art facilities, and C.W. Driver is honored to be part of the university’s revitalization plans,” said David Amundson, Project Executive at C.W. Driver Companies. “In addition to setting a standard for modern design at OCC, the new Kinesiology and Aquatics Pavilion provides a central hub for students to learn new skills, enhance their athletic abilities, and build community on campus.”
The new pavilion features division offices, athletic training, equipment management, locker rooms/showers, and support spaces for aquatic programs. It is also home to the school’s adapted kinesiology program, which encourages individuals with disabilities and/or chronic illness to study and apply general fitness and movement principles throughout their lifelong participation in physical activity, exercise, and sport.
This complex is part of a larger project funded by Measure M, a $698-million general obligation bond provided and supported by the local community to modernize education facilities for all universities within the Coast Community College District. C.W. Driver Companies partnered with Little Diversified Architectural Consulting and Aquatic Design Group on the project.

“The new Kinesiology and Aquatics Pavilion represents OCC’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence, supports our continued growth, and will serve not only our students, families, and staff, but the entire Coast Colleges’ community and beyond,” said Rachell Favis, OCC Measure M Program Manager at Orange Coast College. “With the support of C.W. Driver and its project partners, we were able to bring to life an iconic complex that improves operational and energy efficiencies while delivering on our mission to empower students to achieve their goals by providing innovative, high-quality programs and facilities.”
In addition to the Kinesiology and Aquatics Pavilion, C.W. Driver Companies is managing the construction of a new Student Union as well as a Literature & Languages and Social & Behavioral Sciences Facility at OCC.
