ST. PETERSBURG, FL — PCL Construction has been selected by the City of St. Petersburg, Florida, to deliver the $30 million Lift Station 85 Site Improvements project through a progressive design-build contract. Lift Station 85 was formerly known as the Old Albert Whitted water reclamation facility (WRF).

This critical infrastructure project will enhance the city’s wastewater management capabilities by demolishing the remaining facilities at the decommissioned Albert Whitted WRF, originally constructed in the 1950s. Construction will include 8 to 15 million gallons of new wet weather storage/equalization tanks to better handle storm-related flows and a storm-hardened administrative building designed to withstand hurricane-strength winds. This building will shelter operations staff during emergency storm events.

Design for the project has begun, and construction is expected to start in spring 2026.
