SEATTLE, WA — Hensel Phelps announces that the University of Washington (UW) Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (IEB) design-build team has received the 2026 Baker Tilly/AGC Build Washington Award in the Public Building: $50 million to $100 million category. The UW IEB design-build team accepted the honor at the Build Washington Awards Luncheon presented by the Associated General Contractors of Washington (AGC of Washington) and Baker Tilly. This award recognizes projects that exhibit high standards of construction and safety excellence in Washington’s construction industry.

"[The IEB project] didn’t just stand out, it ranked substantially higher than every other entry in this category," said Lance Calloway, Northern District Manager of AGC of Washington | The Construction Association. "That exceptional score is exactly why we’re proud to declare Hensel Phelps’ University of Washington Interdisciplinary Engineering Building the winner for 2026.”

The IEB brings together students and faculty from multiple engineering disciplines under one roof, with laboratories, flexible learning spaces, and dedicated areas for industry-sponsored capstone projects.

The project was delivered by Hensel Phelps in partnership with KieranTimberlake and the University of Washington - Project Delivery Group. The team prioritized sustainability, safety, and efficiency throughout the planning and construction process, achieving ambitious goals while maintaining schedule and budget alignment. The building incorporates advanced energy-saving systems and was recently awarded LEED Gold certification.
