Browning Day designed a solution on a tight site to unite the department under one roof and create a place of community for the students. Hagle Hall was born out of a 15-year-old idea that turned into a reality, giving the group ample room to practice and perform. We also created an expansion and storage space for the band department at the Turf Recreational Center (TREC) to make access easier to their equipment and uniforms at the practice field while transporting instruments and equipment to the games more accessible.
A unique challenge of the building was how to appropriately display the World’s Largest Drum, a proud feature of the department and the University. Facing along the third street pedestrian corridor Browning Day created a glass-encased room that students, faculty, and visitors can see from the both the outside and inside of the building. It creates an engaging photo opportunity for the public and helps Hagle Hall become an iconic landmark on campus.
