The 2021 AIA Indiana Legislator of the Year Award was presented to Indiana State Rep. Carey Hamilton (D – Indianapolis). Rep. Hamilton is respected in the statehouse for her expertise on environmental issues, thoughtfulness, and her efforts to truly listen to all sides of an issues. This past legislative session Rep. Hamilton authored legislation that called for updating Indiana's woefully outdated building codes. Rep. Hamilton is a true leader and a legislator that works hard to serve all her constituents.
Following the business meeting a Continuing Education presentation was provided by Longboard Products Business Development Representative, Shayne Unger. Speaking on the subject of “Using Aluminum Extrusions to Create Sustainable Facades” Unger addressed the health and safety of this topic with respect to the manufacturing, powder coating and installation of aluminum cladding, he shared how wood finished aluminum cladding can enhance buildings and make them more inclusive and healthy environments. Unger finished the session by sharing some case studies from various residential and commercial projects.
Members, Sponsors, and Friends of AIA Indianapolis were then treated to a Weber Grill catered reception. Bourbon tasting, good food and fellowship makes this event one that is anticipated each year.
