BIBB COUNTY, GA —
Georgia Department of Transportation construction crews with the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvements Project are moving forward with ongoing project items. Details of the project to date are below.
Phase 2 and 3 - Regarding the Region from Hardeman Avenue to the I-16 Eastbound Exit
Crews continue working on both the substructure and superstructure of the bridge on I-16 westbound over the Ocmulgee River. Crews continue work on retaining walls along I-75 northbound and southbound. Workers continued construction of the substructure of the Riverside Bridge over I-75, as well as the substructure of the new Walnut Street Bridge over I-75. Crews continue concrete paving alongside the new lanes of I-75 southbound between Riverside Drive and Hardeman Avenue. They have also started building concrete sound and visual walls along I-75 northbound and southbound.
Phase I - Regarding the Region Including I-16 from the I-75/I-16 Split to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard Exit
Crews continue the construction of the substructure for the new I-16 eastbound bridge over the Ocmulgee River, and continue working on the superstructure, or beams and deck for the bridge along I-16 eastbound near Spring Street. They are still building retaining walls along I-16 eastbound between Spring Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, as well as Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near the Ocmulgee River. Crews have started grading on the Spring Street off-ramp from I-16 and on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near Riverside Drive.
Ongoing Long-Term Closures
- The dedicated right turn lane on the I-16 eastbound off-ramp to Spring Street, which will remain closed through the spring of 2021
- The permanent lane closure (for at least a year) on Coliseum Drive/Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard southbound between Clinton Street to Riverside Drive; southbound traffic in that area is currently reduced to one lane
