ORLANDO, FL —̶ The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) will be investing $4.2 billion in the central Florida region over the next five years through the 2026-2030 Five-Year Work Plan, which the CFX Board has unanimously adopted.
CFX’s new Five-Year Work Plan is a strategy to expand and enhance the agency’s regional transportation network connecting Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. The plan includes four new expressway corridors, continued investments in existing roads, and a focus on innovation to keep central Florida moving efficiently and safely.
The plan’s three largest categories include:
- System expansion projects: $2.95 billion (70.4 percent)
- Existing system improvements projects: $410 million (9.8 percent)
- Interchange projects: $338 million (8.1 percent)
Specifically, the new Five-Year Work Plan will include:
- Additional capacity: Eight projects across SR 408, SR 417, SR 429, and SR 528 totaling 30 centerline miles
- Interchange improvements: Four interchange projects located at SR 408 at Tampa Avenue, SR 408 at Orange Blossom Trail, SR 528 at Dallas Boulevard, and a new interchange on SR 429 at Binion Road
- Resurfacing projects: Nearly 60 centerline miles of CFX’s current 125-mile expressway system
- Project studies: Support the transportation needs of the region through three Project Development & Environment studies, including SR 538 Southport Connector Expressway, SR 515 Northeast Connector Expressway, and SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector
- New corridors: Deliver four new corridors, including the SR 516 Lake/Orange Expressway, the SR 538 Poinciana Parkway Extension, the SR 534 Phases I, II, & III, and the SR 414 Expressway Extension
- Wrong way driver detection: Complete the deployment of CFX’s wrong way driver detection system at 100 percent of the existing off-ramp locations on CFX’s expressway system
