Beck to Lead Tampa Museum of Art’s Centennial Expansion

TAMPA, FL — The Beck Group has been selected to manage the construction of the Tampa Museum of Art’s Centennial Expansion project. This development will enhance Tampa, Florida’s cultural landscape and mark a major milestone in the museum’s history.

Beck has deep roots in Tampa and offices across the U.S. and Mexico. The company brings experience managing cultural projects. Its portfolio includes notable institutions such as the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas, and the Dali and the James Museums in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Funded by the ongoing Centennial Campaign, the Tampa Museum of Art expansion project encompasses 77,904 square feet. The campaign is anchored by a $25 million lead gift from Dick Corbett. The museum anticipates reaching its $110 million fundraising goal by early 2025. Support has poured in from individuals, families, corporations, and government entities.

“Our commitment to the Tampa Bay area extends beyond construction; it’s about enriching communities. We take pride in shaping Tampa’s downtown waterfront, exemplified by our collaboration on the Tampa Museum of Art’s Centennial Expansion,” said Ryan Toth, Regional Director for Beck’s Florida office.

Designed by Weiss/Manfredi, the expansion will offer new amenities, including:

  • Redesigned entrance plazas
  • Outdoor Dining
  • Improved dog parks

New pedestrian pathways and an outdoor amphitheater adjacent to the indoor auditorium will enhance the museum’s integration with Tampa’s Riverwalk.

The new grand lobby will be accessible from Curtis Hixon Park and Gasparilla Plaza. It has a covered entrance, 18-foot ceiling height, lobby store, and restaurant within its nearly 12,000 square feet.

The expansion includes a 150-seat auditorium with exterior glazing along its West façade, providing a visual connection to the Hillsborough River. The space will host various events, from lectures and recitals to film screenings and multimedia performances.

Additionally, the new flexible event space will offer panoramic views of downtown Tampa and be equipped to host exhibitions and private events for up to 500 people. The adjacent sculpture terrace and rooftop spaces will provide settings for various programs and events, further enhancing the museum’s offerings.

The expansion significantly increases the museum’s ability to offer the community more exhibition and education programming. The new business model for the reconfigured space will enable the museum to meet and exceed national averages of support and revenue.
