Continued construction activities include final roadway striping and guardrail placement. Additional work will be required for the placement of the permanent concrete barriers and decorative fencing.
Work continues on the neighboring Covington Highway and Glenwood Road bridges as well, with overall project completion anticipated in Q2 2023.
These bridges are being replaced as part of the Advanced Improvement Projects (AIPs) that are part of the Major Mobility Investment Program. The AIPs will provide local road improvements, mitigate traffic challenges during the construction of the future express lanes, and maintain healthy competition among construction developer partners.
“In just five months, we were able to use the innovative Design-Build method to reconstruct this bridge and get it back into service for the traveling public,” said Achor Njoku Sr., Georgia DOT P3 Project Manager. “We’re thrilled with the rapid progress of the Redwing Bridge made easier by partnerships in the adjacent communities over the duration of this detour. We’re grateful for their patience and look forward to delivering the Covington Highway and Glenwood Road bridges as well.”

Using the design-build method, which saves time in design and construction, Georgia DOT was able to procure one team to perform design and construct activities. This $47.5-million reconstruction investment broke ground in February 2022.
