This $53 million project will extend the I-69 mainlane and frontage road bridges both northbound and southbound by approximately 1,000 feet north, and it will also permanently remove the damaged turnaround under the bridge. The project will be done in phases. In phase one, the southbound mainlane and frontage road bridges will be constructed first, with all traffic temporarily shifted to the northbound side. Frontage road traffic will utilize the mainlane bridge during this phase.
Once completed in late 2027, this project will address erosion and will significantly improve traffic flow and safety for all users of this critical corridor.
"Starting this ambitious project marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance infrastructure and ensure the safety and efficiency of our transportation network," said Varuna Singh, Deputy District Engineer, TxDOT Houston.
As TxDOT embarks on this project to upgrade the I-69 Brazos River bridges, it is expected to bring long-term benefits to the community and all who travel through this vital route.
