SAN ANTONIO, TX — Turner Construction Company, in partnership with Byrne Construction Services and Straight Line Management, celebrated the topping out of the University Health Palo Alto Hospital. The event featured a traditional beam-signing ceremony where project team members, University Health staff, and local leaders signed the final steel beam, marking the completion of vertical construction.
The $550 million, five-story hospital will deliver critical services to one of the fastest-growing areas in the region. Once complete, the facility will include a full-service emergency department, labor and delivery suites, a neonatal intensive care unit, operating rooms, inpatient rooms, and an attached medical office building — designed to support both urgent and ongoing community health needs.
“We’re building more than just hospitals. We’re building a healthier, stronger South Side,” said Ed Banos, CEO of University Health. “This project is rooted in our mission: expanding access to health care, developing a dynamic community hospital, and supporting public health on the South Side. This isn’t just growth. It’s transformation — from the ground up, for all of us.”
“Reaching this milestone is a testament to the incredible collaboration between Turner, Byrne, Straight Line, and our many trade partners,” said Kyle Weller, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company. “Together, we are building a world-class health care facility that reflects the strength and spirit of this community. We are honored to play a role in bringing vital services closer to home for families in San Antonio’s South Side.”
University Health Palo Alto Hospital and its adjoining medical office building are scheduled to open in 2027.
