AUSTIN, TX — During the last two sessions, the Texas Legislature authorized the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to plan, design, and construct a new campus in southeast Austin.
The project consolidates roughly 2,000 employees from five campuses spread across Austin into a unified new campus that will foster collaboration and increase operating and maintenance efficiencies, while providing “a welcoming and efficient environment that enables great work and continued success", said Mark Cross. It will be a modern workplace designed to recruit and retain a workforce.
In 2017, TxDOT purchased a 49-acre undeveloped parcel of land in southeast Austin along Stassney Road, with access from Burleson Road. In 2019, construction began for the 1.2 million square foot campus which includes a four-story office building, warehouse building, laboratory building, and a parking structure. Project substantial completion is targeted for February 2022.
The project team includes Marmon Mok (architectural engineering consultant), Freese & Nichols (construction management advisor), Vaughn Construction (general contractor), and Guidehouse LLP (change management consultant).
