Webber Awarded $151M IH 10 Reconstruction in Austin County
The project includes the construction of 11 bridges, 490,000 square yards of concrete paving and 460,000 square yards of embankment. It will take about 36 months to construct, an aggressive schedule that is intended to minimize the impact on the traveling public.
The new project ties into Webber’s current IH 10 project in Austin County that consists of a 10.2-mile work zone that begins just west of FM 3538 and runs east of the Brazos River. The current project is valued at $279 million and was the largest hard bid project awarded in Webber’s history at the time.
Both projects are part of improvements TxDOT has planned for IH 10 from FM 359 in Brookshire to SH 71 in Columbus. These improvements include adding additional travel lanes, improving clearances by re-building overpasses and converting two-way frontage roads to one way.
“Being selected for these side-by-side projects is a win for Webber, local residents and taxpayers,” said Josh Goyne, President of Webber’s Heavy Civil division. “We were able to be more aggressive in our schedule by sharing resources among these two large projects. We are excited to get mobilized and break ground on this new project."
