Historic Marine was selected based on several key categories, including:
- Financial hardship
- Opportunity
- Neighborhood condition
The target neighborhood lies in Council District 2 and is bounded by Circle Park Boulevard on the west, Northwest 23rd Street on the north, the Trinity River on the east, and Grand Avenue and North 10th Street on the south.
While Neighborhood Services coordinates the program from start to finish, the program is community driven. Feedback from local residents and business owners in the target area is vital to the program’s success.
Previous target areas include Las Vegas Trail, Como, Rosemont, Northside, Ash Crescent, and Stop Six.
City departments such as Code Compliance, Parks & Recreation, and Transportation & Public Works all play an important role in making neighborhood improvements. Some examples of improvements in previous Neighborhood Improvement areas include:
- Police neighborhood presence and community interaction
- Police and Code Compliance security camera installations
- Trash and litter pickup
- Streetlights installed by Transportation & Public Works
- Installing new playground equipment and trails
- Building new sidewalks
Community outreach in Historic Marine began in January. The program has a goal of spending resources within two years.
