“The construction of a new home for the incredibly successful Wilemon STEAM Academy is an exciting step in the continued growth of Waxahachie ISD,” said Jonathan Aldis, Principal at VLK Architects. “This new campus allows for even more students in Waxahachie to engage in an education focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in an innovative and collaborative learning environment.”
The new Wilemon STEAM Academy campus will have capacity for approximately 800 students. The new campus will include specialized spaces for project-based learning. The mission of Waxahachie ISD’s Wilemon STEAM Academy is to create an innovative learning environment in which students thrive, using critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration to solve real-world problems and promote career awareness.
The 102,000-square-foot campus will house kindergarten through fifth grade students and include an open-concept library. Creation spaces are included to promote science and technology instruction with a wood engraver, Lego station, and science and robotics labs. An outdoor courtyard area will embrace outdoor learning and special events. Other features include a recording studio, flex spaces for collaboration, and a large gymnasium and cafeteria. This project received its funding from the May 2023 bond.
