The first phase of Civic Park is a nine-acre project, which features five springs, or shallow pools. The water for the park is sourced from nuisance groundwater that seeps into the river level of the convention center adjacent to the park. It was important to the city of San Antonio to source building materials locally. The 1,200 pieces of limestone used for the pools were quarried from Lueders, Texas, and the 130 fully mature Mexican sycamore trees that will shade the walkways were grown especially for Civic Park in Big Foot, Texas.
The families spent a full morning touring the job site, which is set to open at the end of September. The experience wrapped up with lunch and shaved ice.
