Work will start on the north side of FM 518 between Hobbs Road/Lafayette Lane and Wesley Street during construction. Traffic lanes on this section of FM 518 will transition to one lane in each direction, with additional lanes open at the I-45 intersection.
To help keep traffic flowing at the intersection of FM 518 at Hobbs Road and Lafayette Lane, left turns will be prohibited in all directions. The traffic signal at that intersection will be taken offline during this phase of construction.
When construction is complete, residents can expect improved traffic flow at the intersection of FM 518 and I-45. The improvements comprise of:
- Double left and right turn lanes added on east and westbound FM 518 at I-45
- North and southbound frontage roads will increase from four to six lanes, including double left and right turn lanes, along with dedicated U-turn lanes
- 10 total lanes under the I-45 overpass, including two dedicated left turn lanes in each direction and three through lanes in each direction
