“The topping out at The Spiral represents so much more than the raising of a steel beam,” said John Grafrath, Turner's Director of Field Operations. “It is a celebration of the teamwork that is bringing this project to life. It is not only an addition to the New York City skyline, but it is a symbol of the collaboration, dedication, and hard work of the entire team. Working with Mike Morrissey, Superintendent on steel and Samson Debela, Project Superintendent on concrete to achieve this milestone safely, has been a great learning experience for all of us.”
Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, this commercial skyscraper in Hudson Yards occupies a full block between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and 34th and 35th Streets and will yield 2.85 million square feet of office space. Pfizer, the biopharmaceutical company that recently co-developed the first Covid-19 vaccine will move its global headquarters to 746,000 square feet across 14 floors of the 65-story tower.
“The hard work and commitment of the team this past year, got us to where we are today. This milestone was only accomplished because of the entire team," said Joe Byrne, Turner's Vice President and Senior Operations Manager. "Despite many challenges, work continued and everyone committed to exceed expectations. Actively caring for one another is not just a term at The Spiral, it is the daily practice, on and off the job.”
The Spiral will feature a cascading series of landscaped terraces and hanging gardens as its signature element. The terraces will ascend, one per office floor, in a spiraling motion to create a continuous green pathway that wraps around the façade of the tower. Each tenant on every office floor will have access to outdoor terrace space.
