One Times Square is a historic, 26-story tower in the heart of Times Square that is known as the site of the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. Work will encompass new building infrastructure, addition of two exterior glass elevators, new signage, and an exterior viewing deck that will provide a closer look at the New Year’s Eve Ball and an elevated view of Times Square. A ribbon light element will be added to visually anchor the observation deck to the ground level.
The project is seeking LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and is a Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) signature project. NEW prepares, trains, and places women in careers in the skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades. The project is led by a female executive at Jamestown, the building’s owner, developer, manager, and operator.
“We are thrilled to reach this milestone,” said Bert Rahm, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company. “This revitalization will create a new destination in the heart of Times Square that includes a museum dedicated to telling the story of the building and of New Year’s Eve in the context of Times Square, immersive brand experiences, and other visitor-centric experiences."
The redevelopment of the 119-year-old, 395-foot-tall building will be completed in 2025.
