Spurlock’s career has spanned more than 40 years, with award-winning projects throughout the country. His professional leadership has included serving as the President of AIA|DC, Regional Director on the national board of the AIA and as a Member of the board of the Washington Architectural Foundation. He has also been active with the regional preservation community, serving as Chair of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Historic Preservation Commission, President of the board of the Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions and as a Board Member of Montgomery Preservation, Inc.
Spurlock holds a Bachelor of Architecture (1978) from Virginia Tech. He was selected for the AIA’s College of Fellows in 2012.
As a Principal with Quinn Evans, he oversees major design and preservation projects. Current work includes the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial, including a retrofit of the undercroft that will expand exhibit and visitor space. Spurlock has completed numerous embassy projects in Washington, D.C., and is also currently overseeing renovations to the Embassy of Estonia. His past projects include the design of the Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Gallery of Art on the Georgetown University campus.
