CHARLESTON, SC — Archer Western joined joint venture partners United Infrastructure Group and Banks Construction, along with Charleston County representatives to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Main Road Corridor Segment A Project.
The 3-mile design-build project will construct a new interchange along U.S. 17 East, along with widening Main Road, a new signalized intersection at Main/River Road, and a roundabout to allow free movement northbound. Work will begin at Bees Ferry road and continue along Main Road across U.S. 17, ending at the intersection of River Road at Chisolm Road. The overall project will help reduce congestion and improve capacity through the corridor. Infrastructure upgrades will offer recreational and environmental benefits through safe passageways for bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as improved drainage to lessen impacts during major storms. The Main Road Corridor Segment A Project is part of the overall three-segment approach for the Main Road Corridor Project that will help provide a more efficient access point on and off Johns Island by improving the intersection at U.S. 17 and Main Road.
