LANSING, MI – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/Michigan) recently honored firms for engineering and surveying excellence during the association’s annual Engineering and Surveying Excellence Awards Gala. Design professionals and guests gathered at the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum in Portage, Michigan, to recognize Michigan engineering and surveying projects from the past year, as well as engineering professionals who have significantly contributed to the profession. The ACEC/Michigan Awards Program recognizes the efforts of professional design firms to solve clients’ needs through projects and offers the opportunity to showcase the year’s best engineering and surveying achievements to an audience of peers, clients, and decision-makers at all levels.
“Congratulations to all the firms that shared their projects this year," said Ronald Brenke, PE, ACEC/Michigan Executive Director. "The infrastructure improvements engineered by ACEC member firms significantly improve the daily lives of Michigan residents and visitors. Their talent and expertise was on display at the gala. So many innovative projects have been completed this past year.”
This year’s Engineering Eminent Conceptor Award went to Wade Trim (Taylor) for the Ford Dearborn Campus Stormwater Management project for Ford Motor Company. The new stormwater management system is protecting Ford Motor Company’s massive Dearborn Campus Transformation via 2 million cubic feet of storage, weather-monitoring technology, automated controls, and green infrastructure. Wade Trim led stormwater master planning and system design and provided engineering and survey expertise through construction.
Eight firms were honored with an Engineering Honorable Conceptor Award for their work on the following:

This year’s Surveying Eminent Conceptor Award went to Spicer Group (Saginaw) for the Tittabawassee River Watershed Survey for Midland Business Alliance. Spicer Group conducted hydrological and hydraulic surveys along the rivers and tributaries within the Tittabawassee River Watershed, developing a cohesive data package for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to use in a study that examined stormwater-related infrastructure to create feasible solutions to decades of flooding issues.
A Surveying Honorable Conceptor Award was presented to Wightman (Benton Harbor) for Elkhart Dam Flowage Lands Mapping for American Electric Power.
