Majerczyk, honored in the transportation technician category, played a vital role during the 2021 construction season. Due to turnover, the Traverse City Transportation Service Center (TSC) was operating with a largely inexperienced staff during the rollout of the season’s projects. Majerczyk took on a larger role outside his normal duties in areas that would regularly be handled by others — ensuring projects were staffed, managing consultant contracts, coordinating production meetings, and bringing new staff up to speed with necessary procedures — all while continuing his office technician responsibilities. His extra contributions allowed the Traverse City TSC to deliver its largest program ever in a timely and efficient way.
The Director's Award program represents the various work categories within the department. While MDOT employees nominate their peers, committees comprised of workers from each category make the final recommendations to the department.
