LANSING, MI — The County Road Association (CRA) of Michigan Engineering Committee presented its 2022 Engineering Awards at the annual CRA Highway Conference held in Lansing, Michigan. The annual CRA Engineering Awards recognize county road agency engineers across the state in both rural and urban areas, as well as project managers.

Lance Malburg, PE, Dickinson County Road Commission (DCRC), was presented with the Rural Engineer of the Year Award; Mathew Hannahs, PE, Eaton County Road Commission (ECRC), was named Urban Engineer of the Year; and Project Manager of the Year Award went to Dave Pettersch, Gladwin County Road Commission (GCRC). “CRA’s Engineer of the Year Awards honors those who have dedicated their careers to the pursuit of engineering excellence,” CRA CEO Denise Donohue said. “Lance, Mathew, and Dave have positively impacted their county road and bridge systems. They are hardworking and integral members of their road commissions.” Malburg, an active member of the association, has been with the Dickinson County Road Commission for 11 years, where he currently serves as County Highway Engineer. Hannahs has worked for the Eaton County Road Commission for 17 years, including the last year as Engineer Manager. He has long been a member of various committees and work groups for the association. Pettersch serves as the Managing Director of the Gladwin County Road Commission, a role he first assumed in 2014. He has served on the CRA board since 2017, including a term as President in 2019-2020.

The 83 members of the County Road Association of Michigan represent the unified voice for a safe and efficient county transportation infrastructure system in Michigan, including appropriate stewardship of the public’s right-of-way in rural and urban Michigan. Collectively, Michigan’s county road agencies manage 75 percent of all roads in the state, including 90,000 miles of roads and 5,700 bridges. County road agencies also maintain the state’s highway system in 63 counties. Michigan has the nation’s fourth-largest local road system.
