BOISE, ID — When Idaho Material Company (IMC) needed a reliable dewatering solution, it turned to Mountain West Pumps and Valves (MWST) and Tsurumi Pump for help.
The quarry had previously installed centrifugal pumps that were costly to operate and wore out quickly. Additionally, the pump motors could not get wet, adding complexity to the project site. These factors led IMC in search of a new solution that would increase their cost savings and duty cycle, while simplifying maintenance. After MWST thoroughly evaluated the site, they recommended switching to Tsurumi’s KRS-811 high volume dewatering pump.
The project required modifying the existing barges and replacing the control panels to accommodate the new unit. Tsurumi’s VFD panels helped ensure consistent operation and longer duty cycles. Unlike the previous surface mounted pumps, Tsurumi’s KRS-811 pump could be fully submerged, providing greater flexibility and protection against elements.
“Reducing horsepower while increasing performance was a key factor in this project,” said Jeremy Branco, President of MWST. “The KRS-811 offered high-volume output with a fraction of the power draw, which immediately translated into savings for the customer."
The pumps shipped within the same week that they were ordered, with the custom panels following two weeks later. The quick delivery of products allowed the project to remain on schedule.

Since installation, the results have exceeded IMC’s expectations, with zero reported pump failures, lower power use, and increased duty cycles.
“At the end of the day, we want to provide the right solution to the customer,” Branco said. “Tsurumi helped us do exactly that."
With MWST’s guidance and Tsurumi’s performance, IMC was able to attain measurable savings with reduced maintenance, keeping dewatering operations running smoothly for years to come.
