The ABC Construction Prep Academy, an initiative aimed at preparing high school juniors and seniors for successful careers in the construction trades, is a collaborative effort between Gaylor Electric and ABC. Gaylor Electric has played a pivotal role in the establishment and ongoing support of this program.
"At Gaylor Electric, we recognize the importance of investing in the future workforce of the construction industry," said Jeff Bryant, Director of Education at Gaylor Electric. "Our partnership with ABC has allowed us to contribute to the development of the Prep Academy, allowing us to actively engage with students who are passionate about pursuing careers in the trades."
The ABC Construction Prep Academy offers a two-year program that combines classroom learning with hands-on experience. At the Prep Academy, students are enrolled as first-year construction apprentices while simultaneously completing their high school curriculum. Similar to high school college prep courses, these trade students also have the opportunity to earn industry certifications, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the construction industry upon high school graduation.
One of the unique benefits of the ABC Construction Prep Academy is the accelerated pathway it provides for students. Upon graduation, seniors have the opportunity to join construction companies, like Gaylor Electric, as paid, full-time apprentices. Because of their advanced training through the academy, they can complete their journeyman certification in just three years instead of the typical four. Additionally, while working, they can earn an associate’s degree through Vincennes University, with tuition covered by Gaylor Electric.
