Texas Water Development Board Approves Financial Assistance Totaling $34,856,380 for Water and Wastewater Projects

HOUSTON, TX — The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approves financial assistance totaling $34,856,380 for water and wastewater projects.

$28,550,000 will go to the City of Liberty Hill (Williamson County) for a direct potable reuse project. The city will construct a new direct potable reuse water treatment plant that will use treated effluent from the city’s existing South Fork Wastewater Treatment Plant to help meet the potable water demands of this fast-growing area. The project includes a planning phase pilot study for a reverse osmosis treatment system that will be part of the new water treatment plant. Additionally, the project includes a new deep injection well for reverse osmosis brine waste stream disposal, land acquisition for the water treatment plant site, and development of an asset management plan.

$2,791,380 will go to City of Gladewater (Gregg and Upshur counties) for water system improvements. The city will replace deteriorating water mains, add looping throughout the distribution system, and construct treatment and electrical upgrades at the water treatment plant.

$3,515,000 will go to the City of Aledo (Parker County) for a wastewater collection system project. The city will complete construction of a new interceptor sewer system and make upgrades to the Old Tunnel Lift Station to increase capacity of the wastewater collection system to provide service to a growing population.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
