Skanska Completes New Office Development, 1550 on the Green, at Discovery Green

HOUSTON, TX — Skanska, a global development and construction firm, celebrates the building completion and grand opening of the new office tower, 1550 on the Green. The 28-story, 375,000-square-foot Class-A office building is equipped with the latest technologies and amenities to provide a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment for Houston’s workforce.

“It is exciting to work on projects like 1550 on the Green, which impact Houston’s skyline and the way we all live and work for generations to come,” said Dennis Yung, Executive Vice President/General Manager of Skanska’s Houston building operations. “Our building team is experienced in state-of-the-art sustainable building, and each project presents new challenges. It is a privilege to bring sustainable building technologies and solutions to Houston, which opens the possibilities for our city’s future built environment.”

Sustainably designed and constructed, 1550 on the Green is part of a three-block master plan by Skanska, designed by architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group with interiors by Micheal Hsu. Since breaking ground in June 2021, the building has achieved LEED Platinum, WELL Platinum, and WiredScore Platinum certifications and is targeting a Fitwel certification. Skanska used its Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3), a tool that helps estimate and reduce embodied carbon in building materials. The EC3 tool allowed Skanska to reduce climate emissions from materials used by approximately 45 percent on this project. International law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright, will relocate into the new office tower later this year.

“1550 on the Green was designed to enhance the productivity, health, and wellness by blurring the boundaries between park space and the workplace,” said Matt Damborsky, Executive Vice President, Regional Manager for Skanska USA Commercial Development’s Houston region. “It has been a true privilege to work with a world-class design team and our community partners to deliver Houston’s newest landmark.”

Skanska has built and restored local landmarks in Houston for decades ranging from historic renovations like San Jacinto Memorial Building on the Houston Community College campus, to the new construction of sports facilities including NRG Stadium, and health care resources like the expansion of LBJ General Hospital’s emergency department.

Skanska’s Houston portfolio spans from the Energy Corridor, through Uptown, and into the Central Business District. With a commitment to sustainability and technology, Skanska has successfully delivered over 1.8 million square feet of Class A office development with 3009 Post Oak Boulevard, West Memorial Place, and Bank of America Tower, the first LEED v4 Platinum Core & Shell project in the United States.
