Christine Kirby
Christine Kirby
HOUSTON, TX — Senior Associate Christine Kirby, PE, ENV SP, with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), has been chosen to lead two committees for the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Kirby is the new Chairperson for the Committee on Protective Interior Coatings for Valves and Hydrants within the AWWA Standards Council. She is also now leading the Sustainable Infrastructure Committee within the organization’s Technical and Educational Council.

As the Chair of both committees, Kirby will serve as an objective facilitator and collaborate with AWWA members and staff. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in seven states: Texas, Nevada, Ohio, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Maryland, and Utah. Kirby, who is the Team Leader of LAN’s Water Conveyance group, has participated in various AWWA committees for more than six years.

Leading the Committee for Protective Interior Coatings for Valves and Hydrants, Kirby and the committee members will continue to develop and maintain standards for protective coating systems. Exchanging knowledge, ideas, and expertise, the group will fortify technical standards and amplify the information in manuals for the water and wastewater industry.

A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Kirby said, “I have a passion for working with technical standards, and it is a privilege to work with such knowledgeable industry experts. The committee’s mission is to help attain a deeper understanding of the work that we do and to serve our clients with top-notch technical expertise.”

In her role as the Chair of the Sustainable Infrastructure Committee, Kirby and the committee members will endeavor to help water and wastewater utilities understand and apply sustainability practices and principles to their infrastructure projects. “This includes considering the environmental, social, and financial impacts in every phase of the infrastructure lifecycle, and ways to increase resiliency, lower costs, and reduce negative impacts," Kirby said. "It’s important that we all contribute and focus on a sustainable future.”
