HOUSTON, TX — Lars Zetterstrom, PE, has been sworn in as the new President of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Houston/Galveston Post. A professional engineering organization, SAME promotes the advancement of technical knowledge and fosters collaboration between government and industry on infrastructure solutions.

A member of SAME for more than 20 years, Zetterstrom is Vice President and Manager of Federal Programs at Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN). The Houston/Galveston Post has more than 600 members.

“We hope to increase our industry government engagement, expand our scholarship program, and add a new student chapter," Zetterstrom said. "We also want to increase support to transitioning service members and their families and expand our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math [STEM] programs to ensure our future generations choose engineering as [a] profession.”

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a civil engineering degree, Zetterstrom said the Houston/Galveston Post is also focusing on the future.

“We’re helping to grow leaders and technical experts in the engineering profession," he said. "We have an active Young Professionals program that provides mentoring opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and social activities. On top of that, we’re partnering with other professional engineering societies to help achieve a greater impact on our communities and our profession.”

In addition to leading LAN’s Federal Programs, Zetterstrom also works on projects for the Harris County Flood Control District. A retired Colonel, Zetterstrom previously served as the District Commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers - Galveston District, managing billion-dollar programs involving civil works, construction, and environmental restoration across a 50,000-square-mile area. In addition to his master’s degree in strategic studies from United States Army War College, Zetterstrom also has a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
