AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) recently approved financial assistance totaling $235,563,467 for water and wastewater system projects. Of this funding, $37,525,000 was approved for rural projects.

• $300,000 was given to the Coke County Water Supply Corporation for water system improvements. With the assistance, the corporation will replace its existing water meter system with a new automated meter reading system to help reduce water loss.
• $8,670,000 was given to the FHLM Regional Water Supply Corporation (Falls, Hill, Limestone and McLennan counties) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the corporation will construct approximately 14 miles of pipeline and four new pump stations to transport treated water purchased from the City of Waco and blend it with existing groundwater supply for use by two of its members — Axtell Water Supply Corporation and Elk Oak Lake Water Supply Corporation.
• $53,467 was given to H2O Tech, Inc. (Harris County) for a water system transition project. H2O Tech, Inc.’s system is located in the floodway, and repetitive flooding events have caused significant damage. With the assistance, the utility will replace water meters and tie-in connections to an existing water line.
• $295,000 was given to the Commodore Cove Improvement District (Brazoria County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the district will replace its existing hydropneumatic tank and a water line.
• $12,440,000 was given to the City of Bertram (Burnet County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the city will make improvements to meet the needs of its growing service population. The project includes replacing a transmission line, replacing its existing 50,000-gallon elevated storage tank with a 500,000-gallon elevated storage tank and creating an asset management plan.
• $2,980,000 was given to the City of Cotulla (LaSalle County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the city will construct a new water well, a new water main and chemical feed facilities.
• $7,000,000 was given to the City of Brownsville (Cameron County) for stormwater and drainage system improvements. With the assistance, the city will implement several storm mitigation and preservation projects to reduce flooding and drainage risks in the area. Project components include construction of a park and detention pond system, reconstruction of the Impala Pump Station, culvert rehabilitation and other improvements.
• $52,000,000 was given to the City of Laredo (Webb County) for wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the city will construct the 4.75-million-gallon-per-day Manadas Creek wastewater treatment plant to accommodate population growth in the area.
• $880,000 was given to the Shady Grove Special Utility District (Hunt County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the district will construct a new 100,000-gallon elevated storage tank to increase storage capacity and enhance system operation and reliability.
• $62,825,000 was given to the City of Fort Worth (Tarrant County) for wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the city will construct a new biosolids processing facility at the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility.
• $9,340,000 was given to the City of Jourdanton (Atascosa County) for water and wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the city will finance planning, acquisition, design and construction costs associated with replacing the Tamarac lift station, the wet well at the wastewater treatment plant and the gravity line, along with building two new ground storage tanks, an elevated storage tank, a new well and 12-inch transmission main.
• $500,000 was given to Palo Pinto County for wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the county will plan and design a new wastewater treatment plant to replace the existing plant, which is reaching the end of its design life.
• $1,125,000 was given to the City of Athens (Henderson County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the city will replace approximately 5,000 linear feet of water line.
• $3,000,000 was given to the City of Everman (Tarrant County) for water system improvements. With the assistance, the city will replace aging water lines, which will improve service and reduce water loss.
• $13,595,000 was given to the Greater Texoma Utility Authority on behalf of the City of Sherman (Grayson County) for wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the city will make improvements to its existing wastewater system to meet the needs of the communities it serves.
• $60,560,000 was given to the City of Port Arthur (Jefferson and Orange counties) for wastewater system improvements. With the assistance, the city will make improvements to the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant. The city received funding from the TWDB in 2015 for the planning, acquisition and design of the improvements.
