Benavidez began his TxDOT career in 2004 as a summer hire working on the JFK Causeway. He graduated with a civil engineering degree from Texas A&M University - Kingsville in 2006 through TxDOT’s conditional grant program.
In May 2006, he began his full-time career in the Corpus Christi District where he worked in various positions including construction, design, and maintenance. He became the Sinton Area Engineer in the Corpus Christi District in 2015 and Corpus Christi Area Engineer in 2017. Benavidez began serving as the Deputy District Engineer for the Corpus Christi District in July 2021.
Benavidez most recently served as the Deputy District Engineer for the San Antonio District where he managed over 200 active transportation projects including the I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) Design Build Central and South projects, Loop 1604 North Corridor projects, as well as the I-10 East Corridor projects.
